Their sense of smell.
Dogs can smell approximately 40 times better than us humans which is impressive to think about. There is a certain cell in dogs' brains that is about 40 times bigger than that same cell in our brains. This is the reason dogs are often used to sniff out drugs or even people.
Some dogs can even pick up on medical conditions through smell which is an astounding thing to think about. Some are trained to notify their owners if they need more medication. With this pandemic going on now some dogs are even getting trained to identify Covid 19 through smell so they can alert us if someone has the virus.
One weird and fascinating thing about dogs is that they can sniff and breathe at the same time. The noses of dogs are designed in a way for them to keep in what they smell while they can breathe allowing air into their lungs all at the same time.
Some dogs are outstanding swimmers when others can't stand the water. The dogs that like water more often than not turn out to be amazing swimmers, but this is not always the case.
Some are very fast.
Most dogs are pretty fast and in most cases, they can outrun a human, but would you believe me if I told you that some dogs can run faster than cheetahs?
The fastest breed of dogs by quite a significant margin is the Greyhound. The dogs can attain a top speed of about 45mph in a matter of seconds.
While a cheetah can reach a top speed of about 70mph they can’t hold this speed for a long time normally for about 30 seconds then they start getting tired and start slowing down. Whereas the Greyhound dogs can maintain a speed of about 35mph for about seven miles which is quite a significant distance especially at that kind of speed.
So even though a Cheetah can reach a higher top speed they will soon get tired and the Greyhound dog will soon catch up.
When dogs sweat.
Dogs don’t release a sweaty watery liquid to cool themselves down when they sweat like us human instead they start producing a pheromone laden oily substance that us humans cannot detect. Dogs can detect this with their amazing smelling capabilities that us human don’t have.
There is one place that dogs do sweat like us humans and that is on their paws, so that is why they start panting to cool down. It is essential to keep dogs cool on hot days because of the facts previously mentioned above as it will make it easier on the dogs if they are cool.
Hearing of dogs.
Dogs have very sensitive hearing which gives them the ability to hear sounds that we are unable to. Dogs can hear much higher frequencies and can hear over much further distances than we humans can.
